SOCIAL MEDIA - IS ANYTHING REEL?

Social media is a daily part of our lives, as disruptive as it is educational. It allows us to live vicariously through our peers, educates us, provides us with the opportunity for a giggle and helps us stay close to friends. BUT! Is it REAL?

As a business owner and boxing and strength coach, it’s a necessity. It’s my own and Rebl Union’s number 1 marketing outlet. Long gone are the days where people rely on peer reviews or websites to make a decision about where they should eat, shop or go for their boxing workout. We want more depth of feeling before we make a decision. We hop onto Instagram or TikTok and search the company’s handle. If we can’t find them or don’t like what we see, it’s unlikely that we will attempt to patronize the business, we’ll simply move on because there is so much choice in the marketplace.

So what makes us choose to patronize a business or accept that new friend request? Does the business or human need to move our emotional needle in some way? Should we be entertained, intrigued or excited? I believe that all businesses and people (to some extent) consider their online persona as a permanent CV for work and life. This means that we must question the reality of their online presence.

When we read a CV, explore a profile on IG or meet a new friend in person we know that they are toeing a line drawn by societal construct. We know they are holding back because we are too. We know that the CV may have a few exaggerations. We know the IG profile will only hold the nicest pictures of your best angles. Is this misleading or is it natural? Are we just playing by societal rules or are we protecting ourselves emotionally?

At Rebl Union, we construct our social media to give you a real behind-the-scenes view of our business - a window into our culture. The videos of classes and interviews with our members are REAL. We take great care to deliver you the most authentic version of ourselves so that the reality of your first visit at Rebl matches your perception. We care wholeheartedly about how you feel when you enter our studio and box in our classes. In most cases, our members are the stars of our social media, they are the most important thing to us. Don’t take my word for it. Sign up for your free trial and challenge your perception of exercise. We can’t wait to welcome you to our boxing club.
